Whether you are just trying to deal with a high workload and lots of responsibilities and want to rock them all gracefully, or if you're just trying to figure out why you just can't relax, either way you'll benefit from knowing about these key points of balance in your body chemistry that can make you less capable of maintaining serenity and that cool, calm collected vibe we all so love and admire.
These key points of balance in your body chemistry are:
Your blood pressure should be right around 120/80. If it's too high or too low either way it will make you feel edgy or even panic.
Breath Rate:
You should naturally, subconsciously be breathing about 15-16 breaths per minute when at rest. If your breath rate is too fast, you will be prone to burning up your blood sugar too quickly, which can lead to a state of anxiety and/or depression. If your breath rate is too slow, your brain may get foggy and make you feel frustrated, or if its really slow you may be in a state of alkalosis which can make you feel super anxious because if your blood gets too alkaline your blood cells can't let go of oxygen and give that oxygen to your body tissues so your tissues start to literally suffocate and that definitely feels super uncomfortable / hot & bothered in a bad way.
Here's a video showing how to take your own blood pressure...
And here's a video showing how to assess your breath rate...
And here's a fancy little equation to help you know if you are stuck in Fight or Flight
If your Resultant is less than 2, then you're in the opposite imbalance - the Parasympathetic Imbalance.
Resultant < 2 = Too far the other way to have optimal mental performance / emotional stability.
It's not you, it's your chemistry...

Insulin Resistance
This is when your cells are not metabolizing carbohydrates effectively - a condition known as insulin resistance, which usually develops overtime as a result of eating too many carbohydrates and/or too many high glycemic foods. This would usually (but not always) correspond with high fasting blood sugar, high blood pressure and sometimes high cholesterol. I'm not saying that the sympathetic nervous system causes high blood sugar or high cholesterol, I'm simply saying that those things often occur together because of what's happening overall in a body stuck in a sympathetic imbalance due to insulin resistance. To restore insulin sensitivity to your cells, it is usually a good idea to restrict the amount and kind of carbohydrates you consume for an extended period of time and taking the right nutrients your body needs to metabolize carbohydrates like chromium and banaba leaf. There's a whole lot more information about how to restore insulin sensitivity available on our 12 week fat loss course at www.kickitinthenuts.com/courses.

Respiratory Alkalosis
This is when your bloodstream has become too alkaline, making it hard for your blood cells to let go of the oxygen they are carrying so they can't get it too the body tissues at a rate that would keep you feeling good & happy. If this is the case, make sure you aren't drinking alkaline water or consuming antiacids like baking soda or Tums. Also, you can try drinking carbonated water to raise your blood CO2 levels - that will help right away if Alkalosis is your issue.
